I went to the Techshop this morning to attend a class on Carbon Fiber. I didn't in particular have an interest in materials, but this class is part of the casual purposeless exploration I like to do.
Jon, our instructor, gave us a rundown of carbon fiber layup and carbon fiber fabrication. I won't actually into any details, but the key take aways for me were 1) carbon fiber is a very strong and light-weight material, 2) 10% of the components manufactured by/for SpaceX are carbon fiber, and 3) I have no further interest in pursuing this.
